Técnico de Anatomía Patológica – The Portuguese reality

Técnico de Anatomia Patológica, Citológica e Tanatológica is one of 18 areas in the profession of Técnico de Diagnóstico e Terapêutica in Portugal. These are areas that exist as independent careers in the Portuguese health system since 1971. Their development is characterized by the constant technological evolution of the last 40 years in the sector, being a profession that required previously a school professional course, but since 1983 it requires a university degree. In the laboratory setting this has presented more opportunities for specialization, more knowledge and more work. In this presentation we’ll show you how the past and ever changing present are shaping a very challenging future for these professionals in Portugal.
